Took Boomer out to Kim and Greg’s place today.  They are going to look after him while we are away.  They live out by Water Valley and their place is a labrador’s dream.  As we drove into the yard he started to whine and carry on!  He definitely knew where we were!  He couldn’t wait to get out of the car and see his buddy Wyatt, a golden retriever.  Going out there is like camp for Boomer.  There is a pond only a throwing distance away from the house where the “boys” can swim, there’s a quad that you get to ride on, you get to lose your collar for the entire three weeks, snacking is a regular occurrence, there are cats and the odd skunk and of course there are Greg and Kim who are just the best in Boomer’s eyes!  What more could a guy ask for?  Still, it’s a little hurtful when you go to leave and your dog who adores you at home doesn’t even give you a backward glance.  He’s too busy playing with his pal to bother with you!

Hence we left and headed over to Ron and Marg’s to see how Ron was doing.  I found my replacement “pet” Cody.  He’s rather large though....probably the biggest horse I have ever seen.  I’m not sure I could even get on him without a ladder!  Maybe I’ll have to reconsider my choice and give Boomer a second chance!  Having said that,  each time we collect him from Kim and Greg we go through a readjustment period at home.  He looks at us with this look that says “this place is sooooo boring!”  He actually sulks for a good week after coming home.  The good news is he does have a short memory and does revert to being a city dog.  Guess I’ll pass on Cody and stick to Boomer!
